The Blue Boat

About the Director

Derek Dabkoski is a San Francisco born Film and Video Maker with over ten years of experience in the field. His love of film started at an early age. Film grew from a curiosity to a passion for Derek, and he began producing his own videos, two of which, “D For Doughnut” and “My Dear Addison,” have been screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival, the Mill Valley Film Festival and The Vancouver International Film Festival. From these modest beginnings, Derek took his passion for filmmaking to college, where he attended NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, receiving his BFA in film production. There he worked on over twenty short films, music videos, commercials as well as a handful of features. His NYU intermediate film, “Dans la Fumée,” has screened at the 2007 NYU Intermediate festival and the Festival du nouveau cinéma. After directing two other shorts including “New Morning,” which screened at the 2009 Eisner Awards and won Derek the Director’s Award at the 2009 First Run Film Festival, Derek is hoping to return to the helm as director and finally finish “The Blue Boat.”
